Barracuda unveils Research hub to bolster cyber risk response

Thu, 9th Oct 2025

Barracuda has launched Barracuda Research, a hub designed to consolidate threat intelligence, incident analysis, and email threat detection information for IT and security professionals.

Barracuda Research aims to provide actionable guidance to IT specialists, managed service providers, and security professionals navigating an increasingly complex cyberthreat landscape.

The resource brings together data from multiple streams, including insights from Barracuda's artificial intelligence technology, analysis of recent incidents, and ongoing threat monitoring reports.

Industry pressures

This development arrives as organisations continue to experience mounting pressure to manage cyber risk, remain resilient, and conform to changing regulatory landscapes.

According to a recent study commissioned by Barracuda and conducted by Vanson Bourne, 31% of small to mid-sized companies, defined as those with up to 2,000 employees, expressed concerns about their capabilities to meet these demands.

Further, 47% of survey respondents indicated worries over increasingly sophisticated evasion tactics used by cyber attackers, which they believe make malicious activity more difficult to detect and mitigate. These findings suggest there is a significant desire for tools and resources that simplify the process of understanding and responding to modern cyber risks.

Features of the hub

Barracuda Research leverages detection data generated by Barracuda AI to illuminate current threats, particularly those arriving through email, which remains a persistent vector for attacks. The hub also incorporates distilled findings from Barracuda's latest security analysis, including details of prominent email-based threats observed in real environments, trends identified by Barracuda's Security Operations Centre, and comprehensive breakdowns of recent security incidents managed by the company's Managed XDR (Extended Detection and Response) service.

The insights presented via Barracuda Research are drawn from analysis of trillions of IT events, use of AI-powered detection tools, records of security incidents, and information from mitigation efforts implemented by Barracuda's teams.

Addressing customer needs

"We're launching Barracuda Research to meet the growing need of customers and partners for high-quality threat intelligence that is easy to understand and action," said Neal Bradbury, Chief Product Officer at Barracuda. "Approximately one in three smaller and mid-market organisations around the world worry about how to source and make use of threat intelligence to enhance security, and almost half believe the increasingly evasive nature of cyberthreats makes them harder to spot and respond to. Barracuda Research helps to address those challenges. It showcases the breadth and depth of Barracuda's threat analysis expertise, which underpins our AI-powered BarracudaONE platform and world-class managed XDR service."

This initiative coincides with Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025, which promotes awareness both in businesses and among consumers about practical ways to reinforce security postures and respond to cyber risks.

International research findings

The international research referenced by Barracuda illustrates that concerns are widespread regarding the ability of organisations to react to changing regulatory requirements and remain resilient in the face of evolving threats. The data underscores how new methods of obfuscation and evasion used by threat actors are contributing factors to this anxiety across the sector, especially among smaller operations that might not have in-house specialist resources.

Through Barracuda Research, the company intends to streamline access to actionable data for these groups, providing studies, best practices, and real-world examples derived from both human analysts and AI-driven systems.

Barracuda Research includes ongoing updates with the latest incident trends and newly identified attack tactics, reflecting changes in the threat landscape as they are observed by the company's analysts worldwide. The hub's centralised model aims to deliver clarity for cybersecurity professionals who are tasked with protecting their organisations from increasingly complex risks while facing resource and time constraints.
