Onepoint leader champions women in global tech delivery
Onepoint Consulting has highlighted the role of women in senior technical leadership and the management of global delivery teams, as its Director of Project Delivery and Operations, Sangeetha Viswanathan, set out her approach to data and digital work across the UK and India.
Viswanathan leads delivery across both markets and has worked on building and scaling international technical teams. She also completed the Help to Grow: Management Course.
Her comments focus on leadership models in science and technology, the management of cross-border teams, and the role of training and standards in data-led delivery.
Leadership models
Viswanathan said technical leadership relies on decision-making and accountability. She linked credibility in technical roles to deep understanding of systems and choices that hold up in difficult situations.
"Technical leadership is grounded in judgement, consistency, and close involvement with delivery. Early in my career, I learned that credibility comes from understanding systems deeply and making decisions that stand up under pressure. Programmes like the Help to Grow: Management Course offered a chance to reflect on how decisions are made at scale, reinforcing that women do not need to follow a single model of leadership to succeed in science and technology. Representation matters because it demonstrates that multiple approaches to leading are valid, combining technical depth with operational strength," said Sangeetha Viswanathan, Director of Project Delivery and Operations, Onepoint Consulting.
Industry and government-backed programmes have increasingly focused on management training and talent pipelines, as technology employers compete for experienced staff and face pressure to widen participation.
Global delivery
Viswanathan also described how she views delivery work across different geographies. She emphasised shared standards and accountability across teams.
"Leading delivery teams across the UK and India has shown me that strong outcomes in data and digital work depend on clarity, trust, and shared standards. When teams understand why decisions are made and how their work fits into the wider system, geography becomes far less important than capability and collaboration. Structured thinking around accountability and long-term capability helps teams deliver effectively, regardless of location."
Large organisations often use distributed engineering models to balance hiring constraints and costs. They also use them to manage coverage across time zones. These models place added weight on delivery management and consistent working practices.
Career progression
Viswanathan positioned progression as a function of delivery performance and ownership, rather than speed of promotion. She also framed senior roles in terms of technical depth and operational responsibility.
"Progression does not always come from moving quickly; for me, it came from staying close to the work, improving how things were delivered, and taking responsibility when change was needed. Women in science and technology should feel confident pursuing technical depth or operational leadership - both are powerful paths into senior roles. Reflecting on your own approach, rather than chasing titles, builds credibility and fosters sustainable growth."
Her remarks come as many technology employers report challenges in recruiting experienced data professionals. Employers also face questions about retention, internal mobility, and the level of management and mentoring available to staff in technical roles.
Training standards
Viswanathan said technical organisations need strong processes and training routes. She linked these investments to quality controls and confidence among teams.
"Strong technology organisations invest in people, processes, and rigour. Certifications, training, and apprenticeships are more than box-ticking exercises - they protect quality, build team confidence, and enable responsible innovation. Since completing the Help to Grow: Management Course, I have focused on modernising internal systems and strengthening training pathways. These steps ensure that data and digital solutions are delivered responsibly while supporting teams to perform at their best."
Technology consultancies and in-house teams have increased their focus on assurance and standards around data work. Boards and regulators have taken a closer interest in how organisations manage technology risk and decision-making processes. Many companies also face demand for clear documentation of delivery methods, testing practices, and governance structures.
Onepoint Consulting operates as a technology consultancy and works in areas that include enterprise architecture, data and digital delivery, and automation. The company has positioned itself around responsible technology and inclusive workplace practices.
Viswanathan said her focus includes "modernising internal systems and strengthening training pathways."
