Cloudera's data solutions now support Red Hat OpenShift

Wed, 8th May 2024

Cloudera has announced that customers will now be able to deploy key technologies such as Apache NiFi and Apache Kafka on the popular platform Red Hat OpenShift through its Data-in-Motion offerings. This new development makes Cloudera one of the initial organisations to collaborate with Red Hat in such a manner.

Cloudera’s Kubernetes Operators, named Cloudera Flow Management and Cloudera Streaming, facilitate streaming data and real-time insights delivery to various systems and applications. This feature helps to significantly reduce operational overhead.

The firm has launched the Cloudera Flow Management - Kubernetes Operator and Cloudera Streaming - Kubernetes Operator. These new operators allow customers to implement Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka and Apache Flink clusters on Kubernetes application platforms, particularly Red Hat OpenShift, which is recognised as a leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes.

The planned Kubernetes Operators will allow customers to readily deploy end-to-end data streaming capabilities on current Kubernetes clusters. Customers can benefit from features such as aut0-scaling, efficient resource handling and streamlined setting-up procedures and operations.

Highlighting the intrinsic value of the Data-in-Motion offerings, Cloudera’s Chief Product Officer, Dipto Chakravarty, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re excited to be among the first to offer operator and commercial support for organisations looking to run Apache NiFi data flows on Red Hat OpenShift.” Chakravarty added that customers moving to Kubernetes operators will immediately benefit from auto-scaling flows and streamlined cluster setup and operations.

Offering the Industry perspective, Tushar Katarki, Senior Director - Product Management, Hybrid Cloud Platforms, Red Hat, stated, “Red Hat is committed to enabling organisations with open source technologies across hybrid cloud environments. We are pleased to collaborate with Cloudera to help customers deploy streaming pipelines to expedite innovation projects and scale on Red Hat OpenShift.”

Alluding to the value Cloudera brings, Matthias Broecheler, CEO & Founder at DataSQRL, highlighted how their partnership with Cloudera and the new Streaming Kubernetes Operator can assist in managing the underlying technologies required for streaming data products and real-time AI applications. Cloudera’s latest updates will be featured at the imminent Red Hat Summit in Denver, Colorado.

The Data-in-Motion products, designed to function on Red Hat OpenShift, are expected to be generally available in 2H 2024. Once clients obtain the binaries from Cloudera’s repository, they can initiate the installation of the Kubernetes Operator on their Red Hat OpenShift cluster and start creating the first NiFi, Kafka or Flink clusters according to their preferences. A webinar is also planned to extend details on the wide range of streaming capabilities offered by Cloudera as containerized services to speed up innovation and scale efficiently.
