Hornetsecurity updates backup solution for Microsoft Planner

Mon, 5th Aug 2024

Hornetsecurity has announced a new version of its 365 Total Backup solution for Microsoft 365, now featuring comprehensive backup and recovery support for Microsoft Planner.

This update is also part of the 365 Total Protection Plans 3 and 4. The enhancement ensures critical business data is securely backed up and recoverable, crucial for organisations using Microsoft Planner to manage tasks and projects.

The new feature is available to Hornetsecurity customers as a free update. It extends the already robust data protection suite to comply with GDPR regulations and broadens the backup and recovery functionalities for essential Microsoft 365 applications, including Mailbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.

A notable feature of this upgrade is the granular restore option, which gives administrators multiple restore points. They can opt for a visual representation of plans and their evolution within selected timestamps. This allows for specific tasks to be restored with ease, mirroring Microsoft Planner’s functionality. Additionally, a full restore function can restore all plans associated with one or more Microsoft 365 Groups to the same group, a different group, or a zip archive for offline review and long-term archiving. This functionality is particularly useful during organisational restructuring or in disaster recovery scenarios to minimise downtime and data loss.

The release also incorporates a 'Four-Eye Approval' feature aimed at enhancing security and accountability. This feature mitigates risks posed by cybercriminals or rogue administrators who might delete backup data or alter important settings for M365 organisations, risking significant damage. It also addresses concerns that accidental deletion or retention setting changes by an administrator could cause issues. The 'Four-Eye Approval' feature mandates a second approval for any data deletions or changes to retention settings, ensuring an additional layer of oversight. This process is applicable both during the initial setup and after a tenant is established. Administrators can designate whether all administrators can approve deletion requests or if only specific ones have that authority.

Daniel Hofmann, CEO of Hornetsecurity, elaborated on the company’s strategic direction: "Our commitment to providing unparalleled data protection solutions is demonstrated through our continuous enhancements to 365 Total Backup and our 365 Total Protection suite. By incorporating support for the increasingly popular Microsoft Planner and introducing the 'Four-Eye Approval' feature, we are reinforcing the security and reliability we offer our customers and anticipating their needs. These updates ensure that businesses can manage their data across Microsoft 365 with greater confidence and resilience, safeguarding against both accidental and malicious data loss."
