Lenovo & Formula 1 extend partnership, Lenovo becomes Global Partner

Fri, 6th Sep 2024

Lenovo and Formula 1 have announced an extension of their partnership, elevating the technology company to the status of Global Partner beginning in 2025. Under this renewed multi-year deal, Lenovo's subsidiary Motorola will also take on the role of Global Smartphone Partner for Formula 1.

As part of the global partnership, Lenovo will continue to provide advanced technology devices, solutions, and services to support the delivery of Grands Prix both on track and remotely. Lenovo will also serve as the title sponsor for two races annually and both Lenovo and Motorola will benefit from increased trackside branding at Formula 1 events.

Lenovo has been an Official Partner of Formula 1 since 2022, supplying High-Performance Computing (HPC) solutions, servers, and edge devices to assist in event operations and live broadcasts. Lenovo's hardware, including laptops, workstations, desktop computers, and tablets, are utilised by Formula 1 teams to produce customised content for fans. The company's engagement extends to Motorola smartphones, which enable the creation of engaging digital experiences for a growing audience.

Lenovo's Asset Recovery Service contributes to Formula 1's sustainability strategy. The service ensures that obsolete computing hardware is recycled in an environmentally conscious manner. Since the inception of the partnership, Formula 1 has sustainably disposed of 95% of its retired hardware, thereby reducing costs and enhancing data security through thorough destruction protocols.

Innovative elements have also been introduced in partnership with Lenovo, such as the world's first kiss-activated trophies presented at the FORMULA 1 LENOVO JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2023 and the FORMULA 1 LENOVO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2023. This year's laurel wreath design, blending tradition with modern technology, showcased Lenovo's commitment to cutting-edge innovation in Formula 1.

Formula 1 has witnessed substantial growth in recent years, with heightened television viewership, record-breaking attendance figures, and increasing fan engagement across multiple platforms. Both Formula 1 and Lenovo share a dedication to sustainability and advancing next-generation technologies, including Lenovo AI PCs, AI-enabled Motorola smartphones, and AR/VR solutions.

Collaboration between Formula 1's technical teams and Lenovo's Centres of Excellence continues to generate innovative solutions for operational challenges, such as employing onsite and Edge Compute AI solutions to enhance efficiency during live broadcasts. This ongoing collaboration aims to further develop the future of the sport.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO and President of Formula 1, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership. "I am delighted that Lenovo will become a Global Partner of Formula 1.
