Lenovo unveils hybrid AI solutions with NVIDIA & IDC collaboration

Tue, 2nd Jul 2024

Lenovo has announced the release of several new hybrid AI solutions aimed at facilitating the application of AI across various industries.

Lenovo's 18th annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report further underscores its commitment to responsibly governing accessible and inclusive AI as the company continues to establish itself as a leading provider of smarter AI.

Newly introduced solutions include services powered by NVIDIA through the Lenovo AI Center of Excellence, validated AI Innovator solutions, and the 6th generation of Lenovo Neptune liquid cooling. This combination aims to support the widespread implementation of AI-ready computing, emphasising energy efficiency.

The Lenovo AI Services Center of Excellence (AI COE) aligns with Gartner's Five Critical AI Adoption Phases, helping customers accelerate their AI implementation in a cost-effective and scalable manner.

The initiative supports full-stack NVIDIA-based technologies through Lenovo AI Fast Start for NVIDIA AI Enterprise. Additionally, the new AI Fast Start for AI Innovators enables companies to create tailored AI use cases by integrating solutions from the Lenovo AI Innovators program. Furthermore, Lenovo AI Discover provides tools to help businesses visualise and prepare their AI strategies, addressing security, technology, process, and organisational readiness. This strategic mapping aims to unlock real business value effectively.

Lenovo's AI Innovator Solutions portfolio, encompassing over 165 solutions, delivers AI-powered outcomes geared towards productivity, customer service, quality, and innovation. These solutions cater to industries such as retail, hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, and smart city applications.

For instance, Lenovo's Smart Virtual Assistant, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and DeepBrain, offers AI-powered customer service via a virtual employee. In the travel sector, Lenovo AI enhances safety in aviation with an automated anti-bird strike solution, using high-performance appliances to protect airport airspaces. Smart Manufacturing solutions focus on zero incident priorities through video-based analytics for workplace safety and compliance, while Smart Retail solutions aim to improve self-checkout experiences.

Lenovo's expanded AI PC and workstation portfolio continues to push advancements in AI development and hybrid capabilities. The inclusion of NPU-enabled Lenovo ThinkPad devices and Dynamo AI for AI Innovators facilitates the deployment of generative AI applications with embedded multilingual capabilities. Professional users seeking advanced AI and graphic functions can benefit from Lenovo's NVIDIA-Certified workstations, offering high-performance computing power for AI projects.

Lenovo Neptune, a specialist in data centre cooling technology, introduces its 6th generation liquid cooling solutions, enhancing efficiency and reducing power consumption. Innovations include direct open-loop water cooling for CPUs, patented cold plate designs for GPUs, and on-memory cooling technologies for dense HPC systems.

Highlighting Lenovo's Neptune condensation partnerships, companies can implement high-performance private AI without extensive data centre infrastructure. This collaboration most notably with Digital Realty, leverages Lenovo Neptune cooling technology in more than half of Digital Realty's data centres globally. This partnership aims to meet sustainability goals and enhance generative AI capabilities without compromising efficiency.

The Lenovo ThinkSystem AI portfolio supports market readiness for powerful 8-way NVIDIA GPU systems. The Lenovo ThinkSystem SR780a V3 achieves ultra-low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) with Lenovo Neptune liquid cooling, aligning with environmental sustainability goals in AI.

Scott Tease, Lenovo's Vice President and General Manager of High-Performance Computing and AI, remarked, "Delivering generative AI to every company around the world requires end-to-end infrastructure that is purpose-built to simplify the path to AI innovation and enable real-world applications. With these new offerings, Lenovo is enabling validated, AI-ready use cases for customers across every industry globally."
