Red Hat Developer Hub update enhances AI app creation

Yesterday

Red Hat has revealed an update to its Red Hat Developer Hub, unveiling enhancements aimed at improving organisation-wide adoption and customisation.

The Red Hat Developer Hub, now at version 1.5, aims to streamline the development of intelligent applications, particularly those incorporating artificial intelligence and operating at the edge. As these applications often present development challenges, the enhancements to the developer hub seek to ease these complexities. The focus is on optimising the developer experience and reducing the time required to bring applications to market.

A key component of the update is the 'Adoption Insights' feature, currently available as a developer preview. This feature is designed to provide platform engineers with a detailed analytical dashboard. The dashboard offers insights into how development teams utilise the Red Hat Developer Hub within their organisations. "The dashboard provides a detailed look at templates and plugins that are being regularly used, metrics around visits and usage and much more, enabling organisations to make data-driven decisions to enhance the user experience and ultimately improve overall developer productivity," reads the announcement.

The update also introduces the Red Hat Developer Hub Extensions Catalog, another feature available as a developer preview. This catalogue offers information on more than 60 dynamic plugins from Red Hat, helping organisations customise according to their unique development needs. The catalogue facilitates access to both community and verified plugins, allowing companies to manage any plugin, including custom ones, without constant rebuilding or redeployment. This tool aims to provide greater flexibility and control, fitting diverse organisational demands.

With the addition of RHDH Local, users can now run a self-contained version of the hub on their local machines. This local iteration, also available as a developer preview, supports faster changes by allowing platform engineers to test and modify templates, plugins, and software catalogues swiftly. It operates in a containerised environment which enables users to start and stop the hub quickly, thus boosting day-to-day operations and user experience simplification.

Balaji Sivasubramanian, Senior Director of Developer Tools at Red Hat, commented: "As organisations turn to intelligent applications to gain a competitive advantage, streamlining development processes and maximising productivity is imperative to getting these applications into production faster. The latest features in Red Hat Developer Hub are designed to not only help organisations increase adoption and efficiency, but also allow for a more tailored portal, providing developers direct access to the tools, templates and components they need to drive innovation."

The most recent version of Red Hat Developer Hub is now generally available, reflecting Red Hat's continuing efforts to enhance the productivity and customisation capabilities of its developer tools. The update underlines a commitment to improving the user experience for platform engineers and developers navigating the demands of modern application development.
