Siemens unveils Solid Edge 2025 with advanced SaaS tools

Yesterday

Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the release of Solid Edge 2025 and the introduction of Solid Edge X, bringing significant updates and features to their product development software.

Solid Edge 2025 offers enhancements designed to improve modelling speed, etch and bend features for sheet metal design, and simplifies the creation of Model Based Definition. The software also includes new capabilities to facilitate data management and collaboration, with enhancements across integrated mechanical and electrical design, simulation, and machine tool programming.

John Miller, Senior Vice President, Mainstream Engineering at Siemens Digital Industries Software, commented, "The release of Solid Edge X delivers on Siemens' strategic goal to bring our industry-leading software to customers as a service. This release delivers toolsets that are open, accessible and as scalable as our customers demand. Solid Edge delivers transformative technologies that bring together the innate collaborative capabilities of the cloud combined with cutting-edge AI-based tools, allowing our customers to innovate at the accelerated pace that today's manufacturing industry mandates."

Solid Edge X introduces a cloud-enabled, Software as a Service (SaaS) environment. By providing Solid Edge as a SaaS, the new service accommodates simplified IT administration, personalised experiences, enhanced collaboration, secure and trusted data management, and AI-powered productivity assistance. This is expected to reduce IT complexity and operational costs.

Michael Orr, Design Drafter at Ariel Corporation, expressed his satisfaction with the new release, "Solid Edge 2025 is very intuitive to use. With simplified and refined workflows, we can design with less keystrokes, allowing us to be more productive, while saving additional time. It totally exceeded my expectations."

The new hybrid annotation capability and AI-assisted functionalities further augment productivity, allowing engineers to place dimensions and feature control frames in designs with an efficient, all-in-one workflow. These tools support Model-Based Design workflows and provide consistent, accurate 3D model details.

The software's updates to sheet metal design capabilities streamline workflows and improve precision, with support for complex geometries and improved bend calculations. Enhanced features include automatic placement of etches and detailed properties for bends, which relate to manufacturing and tooling material conditions.

Solid Edge 2025 also integrates with Siemens' new cloud-native electrical design tool, Capital Electra X, allowing for swift and efficient creation of electrical schematics.

The new updates also enhance integration with Teamcenter, particularly in material management. The improvements help ensure the accuracy, consistency, traceability, and security of material data, aiming to optimise usage, reduce waste, and support sustainability goals.

Additional tools such as Smart Machining and improved simulation capabilities further enhance productivity. Solid Edge CAM Pro software brings advanced part programming and machining functionalities, while enhancements to Simcenter FLOEFD for Solid Edge streamline complex CAD model analysis and simulation processes.

Connectivity and collaboration too see advancements with Teamcenter Share app and Siemens Xcelerator services, which enable users to collaborate seamlessly on assemblies and track tasks.

The interoperability between Solid Edge and NX software allows for the exchange of various data formats, facilitating collaboration with Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) professionals through support for Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file types.
