InterCloud, the leading software-defined cloud interconnect (SDCI) provider, has announced the top five trends that will shape the cloud connectivity and multicloud management landscape in 2024. Navigating complexity in multicloud adoption, harnessing the power of edge computing, optimising AI, enhancing data security, and modernising infrastructure are the key drivers of transformation, according to CEO Jerome Dilouya.

Enterprises approaching multicloud adoption face the complex challenge of managing multiple diverse infrastructures in unison. By 2024, more than 75% of large businesses will have hybrid or multicloud environments, and successfully integrating on-premise systems with these will call for strategic evaluation and adaptable policies. "We expect more organisations to enlist expert guidance and implement centralised governance of their cloud ecosystems to ensure optimal performance," said Dilouya.

Edge computing, bringing cloud services closer to the network's edge, will reshape organisations' data processing and analytics operations, and enable real-time decision-making. Handling data in this manner will compel a careful re-evaluation of centralised approaches, tackling issues of data governance, security, and compliance. Dilouya asserts, "Businesses should seek guidance in implementing continuous expert monitoring mechanisms for optimal performance and designing an infrastructure that allows for flexible integration of edge computing capabilities."

Increasingly, AI and machine learning are being used by businesses to automate routine tasks and inform decision-making processes. In 2024, Dilouya posits that transforming roles and skillsets not only reflects the incorporation of AI into organisational operations, but also the challenge of managing an influx of data points generated by these practices. In 2024, enterprises are predicted to focus on proactive defence mechanisms – ensuring compliance and mitigating risks with pre-emptive measures including advanced encryption, threat detection, and identity management solutions. "End-to-end managed cloud connectivity providers will play a pivotal role by delivering enhanced security processes, therefore mitigating risks and helping maintain operations," added Dilouya.
