Veritas Technologies updates Data Insight with SaaS option
Veritas Technologies has released an updated version of its Veritas Data Insight, aimed at helping organisations assess and mitigate risks associated with unstructured and sensitive data compliance, as well as cyber resilience. The new version of Veritas Data Insight now includes a software-as-a-service (SaaS) consumption option, alongside performance enhancements to improve efficiency, speed, and coverage.
According to Veritas Technologies, dark data comprises approximately 52% of an average organisation's unstructured data estate. This data type, often containing redundant, obsolete and trivial (ROT) information, can pose significant regulatory compliance and cyber resilience risks. Veritas Data Insight provides in-depth visibility, context, and analysis across multi-cloud infrastructures to address these issues.
Geoffrey Coley, Regional Chief Technology Officer for the Asia Pacific region at Veritas, said, "Today, the vast amount of data surging from on-premises environments, cloud applications, and end-user devices has impeded the ability of organisations to fully understand their data. Most organisations have massive data estates that they know nothing about. These often include sensitive data that are not properly classified and managed, valuable data they are not using to extract insights and ROT data that are no longer needed. Data Insight in the cloud helps resolve the challenges of unstructured, dark, and sensitive data without adding more complexity to an organisation's technology stack."
In addition to making the solution available as a SaaS offering, the latest release of Veritas Data Insight brings several performance enhancements. Notably, data indexing now requires up to 50% less disk space, expedited data classification focuses more effectively on relevant content, and improved indexing and targeted classification result in more comprehensive compliance.
The software also assists organisations in responding to cyberthreats, including ransomware. It highlights security weaknesses before an attack, provides early warnings during an attack and ensures decision makers are informed about data that may have been compromised post-attack.
Juan Orlandini, Chief Technology Officer for North America at Insight Enterprises, commented, "Veritas Data Insight is key to helping our clients gain critical knowledge about their data to identify security threats, address privacy compliance and enable lifecycle management. With SaaS consumption, more efficient indexing and faster classification, it becomes even more compelling."
Veritas Data Insight can now be consumed from the cloud as a multi-tenant, Veritas-managed SaaS application. This option enables simplified onboarding, automatic updates including new content sources, and enhanced scalability. The software is available as part of Veritas's data compliance and governance service offerings - Information Governance, eDiscovery, and Surveillance. It can also be paired with Veritas NetBackup Flex Scale and Veritas Alta Recovery Vault to enhance cyber resilience with scale-out data protection, data and asset intelligence, and SaaS-based data isolation.
