Instanda launches AI platform for insurance workflows

Mon, 8th Jun 2026 (Today)

INSTANDA has launched INSTANDA Clear, an AI-supported underwriting and operations platform for insurers aimed at managing workflows across the policy lifecycle.

The launch focuses on parts of insurance operations that often sit outside core policy administration systems, including underwriting referrals, fraud investigations, complaints, renewals, reinsurance processes and complex mid-term adjustments.

These tasks are often handled through email, spreadsheets and separate tools, creating oversight gaps and making it harder for insurers to track ownership, deadlines and decision histories. INSTANDA Clear is designed to bring those activities into a single governed environment while leaving decision-making with underwriting and operations teams.

The platform is positioned as an execution layer for work that cannot be fully automated. Insurers can configure workflows and task screens to match their own processes, while users can add tasks, checks and follow-up actions as individual cases develop.

Automated steps, notifications and email communications can also be built into workflows. Once work is completed, outcomes can be written back to a system of record, including INSTANDA PAS or other policy, claims, customer relationship management and third-party systems.

Workflow focus

INSTANDA said the product addresses a gap in the insurance technology market, where existing underwriting workbench tools may display information but do not control how work is completed, or rely on fixed workflows that do not reflect more complex insurance cases.

The platform is built around three principles: visibility of work in one place, controlled workflows with full audit trails, and clear completion records written back to core systems.

One of its central features is an AI email inbox, which can turn inbound emails into tasks, capture relevant context and route those tasks into the appropriate workflow. The aim is to reduce manual task creation across different systems.

The platform is also intended to support coordination beyond a single insurer's internal teams. Brokers, underwriters, operations teams, specialists, coverholders and third parties can be included in managed workflows, reducing reliance on disconnected communications and tools.

Industry pressure

The launch comes as insurers face greater operational complexity and regulatory scrutiny, while also trying to improve efficiency without weakening governance or underwriting oversight.

INSTANDA operates in the US, UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific, and said the new product extends its technology offering beyond product creation and policy administration into more complex, human-led insurance processes.

Tim Hardcastle outlined the rationale for the launch.

"The insurance market has invested heavily in digitising distribution and policy administration, but much of the most complex underwriting and operational work has been left behind, still fragmented across emails, spreadsheets and rigid systems that surface information without truly supporting how decisions are made. INSTANDA Clear was designed to change that. It represents a natural evolution of the INSTANDA platform, extending beyond product creation and policy administration to deliver a single execution layer for underwriting and operations. This is more than a traditional underwriting workbench. It is a next-generation execution layer that puts business owners in control of how work is actually delivered. Teams can shape workflows around how they work, adapt them dynamically as cases evolve, and bring their wider ecosystem into governed, auditable execution where humans remain at the centre and technology supports how work gets done," said Tim Hardcastle, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, INSTANDA.

Kevin Gaut said the company had designed the system to support rather than replace underwriting judgement.

"Insurance underwriting is fundamentally human work. While automation can handle predictable processes, complex underwriting cases still rely on expertise, judgement and collaboration across multiple teams and systems. INSTANDA Clear has been built to bring structure, visibility and governance to that work without removing the flexibility underwriters need. By giving insurers a governed execution layer across underwriting and operations, we are helping teams reduce friction, improve accountability and move complex cases forward faster, while maintaining full control and auditability throughout the process," said Gaut.

INSTANDA said the release of Clear follows earlier work on its AI products, including its Journey initiative and INSTANDA MAX, as it broadens the use of AI in insurance workflow and administration tools.
