Snowflake expands AI tools for business users & developers

Wed, 22nd Apr 2026 (Yesterday)

Snowflake has expanded Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex Code, extending its AI tools for business users and software builders.

The updates are part of Snowflake's push to make its platform a central layer for companies using AI systems connected to internal data and business applications.

Snowflake Intelligence is aimed at business users as a work assistant connected to company data. Cortex Code targets developers and data teams building AI tools and workflows across enterprise systems.

Baris Gultekin, Vice President of AI at Snowflake, said demand is growing for AI tools that can operate within existing business controls and data frameworks.

"AI is changing how every company operates, and the platforms that win will make it easy to put AI into practice with the right data and guardrails," said Gultekin. "Snowflake gives customers one place to bring their data together, connect the systems they rely on, and turn AI into something that actually helps teams get work done."

Business tools

For business users, Snowflake Intelligence can now automate routine tasks through a feature called Skills, which lets users describe workflows in natural language. Those workflows include preparing presentations, carrying out multi-step analysis, and sending follow-up messages.

Snowflake is also adding connectors based on the Model Context Protocol, allowing the tool to link with systems including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Jira, Salesforce, and Slack. It is also introducing a mobile iOS app and a deep research feature designed to generate cited, multi-step reports from structured data, unstructured content, and external context.

The product will also adapt to user behaviour over time, making responses and automated tasks more tailored to individual work patterns. Another addition, called Artifacts, lets teams save and share analyses, visualisations, and workflows.

These updates follow feedback gathered during the research preview of Project SnowWork, which Snowflake used to test how business users wanted AI systems to fit into daily work.

Developer focus

On the developer side, Cortex Code is being extended to work across a broader set of data environments, with support for external systems including AWS Glue, Databricks, and Postgres.

The tool is also being linked to other AI systems through the Model Context Protocol and Agent Communication Protocol. This is intended to let developers use Cortex Code within other AI agents and workflows rather than rely on a separate toolchain.

Snowflake is also introducing a Visual Studio Code extension and a Claude Code plugin, giving developers access to Cortex Code within their existing coding environments. A new Agent Software Development Kit for Python and TypeScript is intended to let organisations embed Cortex Code functions into their own applications and workflows.

In Snowsight, Snowflake is adding Cloud Agents, which allow users to run code and execute workflows in a browser-based managed environment. New features include Plan Mode, which lets users preview workflows before execution, and Snap & Ask, which enables interaction with charts and tables.

More than half of Snowflake's customers have actively used Cortex Code since its launch in late 2025. Across its AI products more broadly, over 9,100 customers use them each week.

Customer use

Several customers described using the tools in operations, customer service, software development, and manufacturing. Consulting group Accenture said thousands of its practitioners use the platform across client accounts.

"As Snowflake's leading global partner for Cortex Code and Snowflake Intelligence, Accenture is driving AI-powered transformation across the enterprise, redefining how businesses interact with their AI-ready data estates," said Sree Vadakkepat, Snowflake Business Group lead at Accenture. "Today, we have thousands of Accenture practitioners that are active on the platform, delivering use cases across numerous client accounts, and leveraging nearly two dozen purpose-built skills spanning SQL development, notebooks, and semantic modelling. We're not just adopting these capabilities - we're embedding them into how we deliver for clients at scale, enabling organisations to interact with their data through natural language and accelerate AI-driven business outcomes."

Capita said it is using Snowflake as part of its AI Catalyst Stack to combine fragmented operational data in contact centre operations.

"Snowflake provides the data and intelligence foundation behind Capita's AI Catalyst Stack, enabling us to bring together fragmented operational data and deliver real-time, natural-language insights across the public service contact centres we run and the private sector contact centres we help transform," said Sameer Vuyyuru, Chief AI and Product Officer at Capita. "With Snowflake Intelligence, we're accelerating decision-making, reducing operational overhead, and unlocking meaningful efficiencies for our clients and our own operations. At the same time, Snowflake helps us deploy AI securely and with the right governance across highly regulated, citizen-facing services where performance, compliance and trust are critical."

Telenav said the tools have reduced the time needed to turn raw data into usable insights. The company processes more than 20 terabytes of data a month and more than 200 million events a day.

"Snowflake Intelligence has given our data a trustworthy voice, and Cortex Code is driving significant productivity gains in how we work with it," said Kumar Maddali, Vice President of Product Development at Telenav. "At Telenav, we process over 20 terabytes of data per month and more than 200 million events per day. What once took days to weeks to move from raw data to insights can now be done in minutes to hours through a conversational, self-service experience. Together, we are accelerating how we turn complex data into real-time intelligence and make faster, more informed decisions across the business."
