Splashtop has launched Agentic Packr, a tool that automates application packaging for Microsoft Intune. It is aimed at IT teams and managed service providers managing Windows environments.

Agentic Packr packages, tests and certifies third-party application updates before administrators publish them to Intune. Splashtop says it removes a manual step that often depends on specialist packaging skills and can delay patch deployment.

The software supports more than 1,000 third-party applications, as well as custom and internally developed apps. It uses AI to analyse installers and determine install and uninstall parameters and detection rules, then scripted automation builds and tests each package.

If a package fails testing, the system retries. A rules-based engine acts as a fallback if the AI process cannot produce a working package. Packages that fail testing do not reach Intune.

The launch addresses a longstanding issue for organisations that rely on Microsoft's device management platform to deploy third-party updates across Windows endpoints. Although Intune can deploy applications, each update typically needs to be prepared and validated first, creating extra work for internal IT teams and service providers.

Splashtop linked the product to patching pressure in security operations, where known vulnerabilities can remain open while updates sit in a packaging queue. It cited data from the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency showing that roughly three-quarters of vulnerabilities in its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue affect products from vendors other than Microsoft.

The company also referenced J.P. Morgan research that found a patch was already available at the time of compromise in about 60% of breaches.

Agentic Packr also includes separate security checks on installers and installation footprints using commercial threat intelligence. Those checks run outside the AI workflow, and packaging fails if a threat is detected.

Administrators decide which applications are published to their Intune tenant and how they are assigned. The software then uploads each package as a Win32 app and creates the related Intune assignments and Microsoft Entra groups.

According to Splashtop, the product can also be used without Intune. It supports Microsoft Configuration Manager, where validated packages can be downloaded and imported, and includes a bundle-based deployment option for organisations using neither platform.

Skills gap

Splashtop framed the launch around a shortage of packaging expertise in many IT departments, where endpoint management, security and support work often falls to the same staff.

"Most Intune admins I meet are generalists. They look after devices, identity, security and the help desk, often all in the same week," said Maxime Guillemin, Product Manager & Microsoft Community Lead at Splashtop. "Packaging is a craft of its own, and learning to build quality PSADT packages takes time few of them have. Agentic Packr brings that expertise to every team, so third-party updates no longer wait for the one person who knows how."

Splashtop says the software creates standard PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit packages and can be configured with reusable deployment and user experience templates. Those templates let IT teams set deployment preferences once and apply branded update prompts that users can recognise, with the option to defer installation.

Pricing and availability

Agentic Packr is generally available for Windows environments. Splashtop says macOS support is planned for a later release.

Splashtop is offering the product free for the first 100 endpoints. Paid subscriptions start at USD $3.00 per endpoint per year, with monthly and annual billing options.

Agentic Packr extends Splashtop's broader endpoint management portfolio, which includes its Autonomous Endpoint Management product for real-time patching and remediation, its Remote Support offering for technician access, and Foxpass for certificate-based network authentication.

Its remote access and endpoint management software runs on more than 25 million computers worldwide, according to the company.
