Broadcom launches VMware Tanzu for AI-driven data lakehouses

Yesterday

Broadcom has announced the availability of VMware Tanzu Data Intelligence, a data lakehouse platform designed to provide low-latency access to multimodal enterprise data at scale, alongside the release of VMware Tanzu Platform 10.3 for the integration of generative AI capabilities in enterprise applications.

Enterprise data challenges

The recent advancements aim to address key data quality and accessibility issues that often hinder the progress of generative AI projects. According to research from Gartner, "through 2026, 30% of generative AI (GenAI) projects will be abandoned after proof of concept due to poor data quality, inadequate risk controls, escalating costs or unclear business value." In addition, analysts state that as much as 90% of enterprise data is unstructured and not readily available for analysis or application integration.

Purnima Padmanabhan, Vice President and General Manager of the Tanzu Division at Broadcom, commented on these sector-wide challenges.

"Business leaders who want to be part of the next wave of AI application innovation - such as personalised customer experiences or agentic workflows - understand that modern app and data architecture is critical to the development cycle. While many organisations have invested in application platforms and looked to SaaS platforms to help modernise their data strategy, they struggle with silos between their application and data teams and the unpredictability of costs of data movement both within and across cloud environments.
"Tanzu Data Intelligence combined with Tanzu Platform provides our customers with the power of a modern multimodal data lakehouse architecture and our proven single-command CF-push technology but with the cost predictability of a private cloud."

Key features of Tanzu Data Intelligence

Tanzu Data Intelligence is designed as an enterprise-grade data lakehouse, aiming to process and unify access to both structured and unstructured data across diverse environments. The platform offers scalability from terabytes to petabytes, with millisecond latency and support for high concurrency across data, users, and APIs. It supports various data types - transactional, agentic and smart applications, decision support, model training and data science - and includes features such as full data lineage, governance, and native vector search at scale.

Core components include ingestion and workflow orchestration, federated query services, container compute services for elastic scaling, real-time data services, and embedded support for predictive models and agentic AI workflows. This toolkit is intended to support businesses with requirements ranging from business intelligence to generative AI and integrated data experiences for app development teams.

Tanzu Platform 10.3 enhancements

Tanzu Platform 10.3, which builds on previous releases, provides new capabilities for application delivery, security, and operational transparency. It is developed to streamline complex operational tasks within private cloud environments, allowing developers to focus on application deployment rather than infrastructure management.

The latest release features several notable updates. Service publishing in the Tanzu Platform Marketplace allows application developers to offer applications as services, improving collaboration and scalability. Newly introduced AI model quota capabilities and advanced architectural updates expand options for integration, security, and cost control of AI models. Application portfolio modernisation is supported through updated onboarding and automation features to help teams upgrade applications with reduced operational overhead.

A new vulnerability insights dashboard provides a comprehensive view of application and platform security risks, enabling faster response to vulnerabilities. Integrated data services observability in Tanzu Hub is also newly available, presenting out-of-the-box dashboards to improve visibility into system performance and alerts.

Support for accelerated AI app delivery

Broadcom is offering an "AI Starter Kit" for organisations adopting the Tanzu Platform, designed to facilitate the deployment of AI applications. These resources provide automated stand-up of AI-capable Tanzu Platform services and step-by-step guides for setting up and deploying initial AI use cases. Organisations using earlier Tanzu Platform versions can also evaluate these AI capabilities without the need for full platform upgrades.

Both Tanzu Data Intelligence and Tanzu Platform 10.3 are positioned to support businesses developing intelligent applications and workflows on private or hybrid clouds, focusing on data accessibility, cost containment, governance, and the ability to rapidly implement new AI features into existing workflows and applications.
