Commvault unveils new HyperScale Edge & Flex for cyber resilience
Commvault has introduced two new on-premises offerings, HyperScale Edge and HyperScale Flex, designed to strengthen cyber resilience and data protection for enterprises managing workloads in diverse environments.
The launch of HyperScale Edge and HyperScale Flex comes as organisations face a significant rise in cyberattacks targeting edge devices and remote locations. Data from the 2024 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report highlights that breaches leveraging edge devices and VPNs now constitute 22% of incidents, an eightfold increase compared to the prior year.
Aim of new products
Commvault has developed HyperScale Edge and HyperScale Flex with the aim of offering customers flexibility, performance, and resilience regardless of their existing infrastructure. Both products are delivered as a software image and can be deployed on validated hardware, extending the company's HyperScale portfolio which includes the flagship HyperScale X scale-out integrated appliance.
Pranay Ahlawat, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Commvault, said, "No two enterprises are the same. Modern retailers often manage mission-critical data across dozens of sites, while large organisations may want to leverage existing storage investments. But regardless of infrastructure, every enterprise is striving for one thing: cyber resilience. With the launch of HyperScale Edge and HyperScale Flex, we're delivering the best of both worlds - flexibility and choice, combined with industry-leading cyber resilience."
Details on HyperScale Edge
HyperScale Edge is tailored for remote sites, edge locations, and small or medium-sized businesses that may face space and IT resource constraints. These deployments are commonly seen in retail stores, branch offices, and distribution centres. Customers can implement HyperScale Edge using validated hardware from partners such as Dell, HPE, and Lenovo.
Lee Lindstrom, Principal Infrastructure Architect at Fortune Brands, described the product's impact: "Commvault's HyperScale Edge was crucial in creating a cost-effective data management and cyber resilience solution across our many data centres. With Commvault's HyperScale Edge, we were able to implement a cost-effective, repeatable, and easily deployable solution. The built-in resiliency and advanced ransomware protection have given us the peace of mind that our critical data is always protected and recoverable."
Details on HyperScale Flex
HyperScale Flex is designed to address the demands of large, data-intensive, and artificial intelligence workloads seen in technology, telecom, and healthcare. It offers a flexible architecture linked to external flash storage, supporting certified solutions from Pure Storage, VAST Data, and soon, HPE. This enables organisations to meet the requirements posed by multi-petabyte capacities and performance-intensive applications, including those reliant on AI and machine learning.
Jim O'Dorisio, Senior Vice President and GM for Storage at HPE, said, "As cyber threats increase in sophistication and the pace of business operations accelerate, current data protection approaches and architectures are not adequate. In the coming quarters, Commvault HyperScale Flex with HPE Alletra Storage MP X10000 and our full-stack infrastructure will deliver a truly differentiated, holistic approach to cyber resilience and data protection that meets the extraordinary speed, scale and simplicity required by modern enterprises."
Maciej Kranz, General Manager, Enterprise at Pure Storage, noted, "An all-flash architecture with the Pure Storage platform combined with Commvault HyperScale software will provide a massively scalable, high-performance, and cost-effective platform for protecting petabyte-scale data, giving organisations the confidence to manage and secure their largest and most critical data assets from a single centralised plane."
George Axberg, Vice President, Data Protection at VAST Data, commented, "The performance demands of modern AI and data-intensive workloads require a new approach to data architecture. By combining the high-throughput and low-latency infrastructure of the VAST AI Operating System with Commvault's HyperScale Flex, we are delivering a solution that can keep pace with these critical applications. Customers will be able to protect massive datasets at unprecedented speed, minimising application impact and accelerating recovery when it matters most."
Product availability and pricing
Commvault HyperScale Edge is currently available. The offering is provided under a subscription model, priced per node or per month, or through a perpetual licence structure with ongoing support costs. Customers are responsible for acquiring an approved server according to the HyperScale Reference Architecture.
Commvault HyperScale Flex is open to early adopter customers, with access coordinated through Commvault Sales. Pricing is determined by the specific server and storage configurations selected.
