CSM Technologies reported first-quarter total income of ₹43.25 crore, up 21.2% from a year earlier, and a consolidated net loss of ₹828.07 lakh.

The figures cover the three months ended June, which management described as the company's historically weakest quarter.

On a consolidated basis, total income rose to ₹4,324.69 lakh from ₹3,569.32 lakh. Pre-tax loss before exceptional and extraordinary items widened to ₹1,074.95 lakh from ₹960.15 lakh, while net loss after tax increased to ₹828.07 lakh from ₹734.76 lakh.

Even so, the consolidated PAT margin improved to negative 19.1% from negative 20.6%, a gain of 144 basis points year on year. Total comprehensive loss stood at ₹837.97 lakh, compared with ₹769.12 lakh in the same quarter last year.

On a standalone basis, income grew faster, and losses narrowed. Total income rose 27.4% to ₹4,100.90 lakh from ₹3,218.23 lakh, while pre-tax loss fell to ₹1,035.58 lakh from ₹1,188.80 lakh and post-tax loss narrowed to ₹777.81 lakh from ₹890.85 lakh.

Paid-up equity share capital increased to ₹5,160.35 lakh from ₹3,870.25 lakh. Basic and diluted loss per share for the quarter was ₹2.14, compared with a loss of ₹1.96 a year earlier.

Seasonal pattern

Management said the first quarter is typically the lightest part of the year because revenue recognition is weighted towards the second half. It linked that pattern to government project timing and public budget cycles, while noting that much of the cost base remains fixed through the year.

Compared with the preceding quarter, performance was sharply weaker, though management said sequential movement is not a useful guide because of seasonality. Total income fell 29.9% from ₹6,166.85 lakh in the fourth quarter, when the company reported a profit after tax of ₹929.87 lakh.

The previous quarter included an exceptional charge of ₹273.24 lakh related to the statutory impact of new labour codes. The first quarter and the comparable period a year earlier did not include exceptional or extraordinary items.

CSM Technologies operates in government technology and digital transformation, with work spanning Mining & Allied Services, Government & Public Services, Agriculture & Allied Services, Industry & Trade Facilitation, Education, Healthcare, and Tourism. It has also been expanding its presence outside India, with a particular focus on Africa.

Management view

Priyadarshi Pany outlined management's view of the quarter in prepared remarks.

"The first quarter is seasonally our lightest, and this year followed that established pattern. What we are encouraged by is the top line: total income grew 21.2% year-on-year on a consolidated basis and 27.4% at the standalone level, and our standalone loss narrowed by 12.7%. Consolidated PAT margin also improved by 144 basis points year-on-year," said Priyadarshi Pany, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO of CSM Technologies.

He also pointed to the mix of fixed costs and revenue recognition later in the financial year.

"Our cost base is largely fixed through the year while revenue recognition remains weighted towards the second half, driven by government project and budget cycles. We continue to invest deliberately in proprietary platforms, AI and data-led capabilities, and in expanding our footprint across India and international markets. With a robust order book in hand, and a strengthened balance sheet following our listing, we remain confident of delivering a strong full-year FY27," said Pany.

Business activity

Outside the quarterly figures, CSM Technologies said it won a World Bank-funded contract worth INR 32.08 million to build an electronic auctioning platform for Malawi's Public Private Partnership Commission. The award adds to its work in overseas public-sector technology projects.

The company also said it continued to invest in proprietary technology platforms and in areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud, data analytics, and automation. Those investments sit alongside its core focus on public-sector and regulated-industry contracts, where project timing can make quarterly performance uneven.

For investors, the latest numbers show a business that remains loss-making at the consolidated level despite double-digit revenue growth, with margin pressure easing only modestly. The standalone results offered a more favourable picture, with income rising faster and losses narrowing, while the consolidated accounts continued to reflect the effect of the group's broader cost structure.

Paid-up equity share capital stood at ₹5,160.35 lakh at the end of the quarter, up 33.3% from a year earlier.
