Delinea has appointed Timothy Regan as Chief Financial Officer as the identity security company moves beyond USD $500 million in annual recurring revenue.

Regan joins Delinea's executive team after serving as Chief Financial Officer at Dropbox from 2020 to 2025, then as an adviser into early 2026. He joined Dropbox in 2016 as Chief Accounting Officer and was part of the leadership team during the file-sharing group's 2018 initial public offering.

Earlier in his career, he was VP Finance Controller at Pandora Media and held senior finance roles at Dolby Labouratories and Ernst & Young. He will lead Delinea's global finance organisation and work with the broader leadership team on the company's commercial and operational foundations.

The appointment brings a senior executive with extensive public-company finance and accounting experience to a cyber security business that serves more than 9,000 customers worldwide, including more than two-thirds of the Fortune 100.

Delinea operates in identity security, which focuses on controlling and monitoring what users, systems and software agents can access. Its platform is designed to manage permissions for AI agents, humans and machines, with an emphasis on limiting standing privileges and applying authorisation at the point of action.

Growth stage

The finance leadership change comes as software and cyber security companies face closer scrutiny over profitability, recurring revenue quality and operating discipline. Companies at Delinea's scale often bring in experienced finance executives as they expand internationally, refine pricing and product mix, or prepare for a new stage of ownership and reporting.

Regan's appointment also reflects the growing overlap between finance leadership and operational planning in enterprise software companies. Chief Financial Officers are increasingly expected to oversee not only accounting and reporting, but also resource allocation, forecasting and the systems needed to support larger global sales operations.

Art Gilliland, Chief Executive Officer at Delinea, linked the hire to changes in the identity security market driven by AI adoption across business systems.

"AI is significantly expanding the identity security market," said Art Gilliland, Chief Executive Officer at Delinea. "As agents take on more work across the enterprise, organisations count on Delinea to control what those agents are allowed to do. Tim brings deep experience in building systems for scale and operational rigor that will help us capture the opportunity in front of us."

Delinea has positioned itself around the idea that identity is becoming a central control layer for enterprise security as more automated tools and AI-based agents enter day-to-day workflows. That trend has led cyber security vendors to argue that access management no longer applies only to employees and contractors, but increasingly extends to software-driven identities across cloud and on-premises environments.

Finance focus

For Delinea, hiring a finance chief with IPO experience may also help reassure customers, partners and investors as the company grows. Businesses with large recurring revenue bases often face pressure to show that internal controls, forecasting processes and spending decisions are keeping pace with expansion.

Regan said the company's position in identity security and installed customer base were key factors in his decision to join.

"AI is turning identity into the control point for enterprise security, and Delinea has the platform and the customer base to lead that market," said Regan. "I've spent the past decade building finance organisations that hold up under scrutiny, and I look forward to bringing that operational discipline to Delinea."

Regan holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
