Marvell will invest USD $250 million in India over the next three years, expanding its engineering operations in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The semiconductor group also plans to double its workforce in India over the same period. It has opened a new wing at its Bengaluru office as it marks 20 years of operations in the country.

India has become an increasingly important base for global chip companies seeking engineering talent and building research and development networks beyond their home markets. Marvell's India business is now its second-largest research and development organisation worldwide.

The investment will go towards technology development, recruitment and site expansion. Teams in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad work on advanced process technologies, including 2nm and beyond, as well as high-speed analogue IP, subsystem design, software and firmware development, and end-to-end silicon development.

Marvell's India staff contribute across several technology platforms and hold multiple patents. Teams in the country are also involved in using AI tools in engineering work.

India expansion

Marvell established operations in Bengaluru in 2006 and has since expanded its engineering base in the country. The latest spending commitment signals a deeper push into India as semiconductor design and related research remain a strategic priority for both multinational chipmakers and the Indian government.

Beyond its internal expansion, Marvell is working with universities, startups, industry associations and government organisations as part of broader efforts to support the country's semiconductor sector. Those efforts include internship programmes, faculty development, joint research and curriculum work with academic institutions.

It also works with startups through mentorship and strategic collaborations linked to its technology and product portfolio. The company engages with industry bodies and government agencies to support broader growth in India's semiconductor industry.

Talent pipeline

Alongside facility and headcount growth, Marvell highlighted a scholarship scheme designed to support students in electronics, electrical engineering and computer science. The Marvell Scholarship for Technical and Engineering Merit, or MSTEM, was launched earlier this year.

The programme drew more than 7,000 applicants from universities across India, according to Marvell. The company selected 100 students to receive scholarships, combining financial support with exposure to industry work.

That focus on training and recruitment reflects the competitive environment for semiconductor talent in India, where global technology groups have expanded chip design, software and systems work. Companies have increasingly sought closer ties with universities to shape course content and create recruitment channels for specialist engineering roles.

Marvell's latest commitment also underlines India's role in developing semiconductors used in AI, cloud and data infrastructure. Its expanded footprint in Bengaluru and Hyderabad will support the design and development of advanced semiconductor products for those markets.

Navin Bishnoi, Vice President and India Country Manager at Marvell, described India as a core engineering base for the company.

"India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world's leading hyperscalers and cloud providers," said Bishnoi. "As we celebrate 20 years in India, we remain committed to expanding R&D investments, strengthening the country's semiconductor ecosystem and developing the next generation of technology talent. We are grateful to our customers, partners, government collaborators, academic institutions and especially our exceptional team, whose innovation, expertise and dedication have been instrumental to the growth and success of Marvell in India."
