SmartBear enhances BugSnag with advanced performance insights
SmartBear has announced the addition of OpenTelemetry-native performance insights and distributed tracing to its BugSnag error and real user monitoring solution.
This enhancement aims to assist developers in identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and systemic issues by providing comprehensive visibility into application performance. The addition of these capabilities is intended to improve responsiveness and enhance the overall customer experience, particularly for enterprises with critical applications and those focused on the quality of interaction on mobile and other front-end platforms.
Justin Collier, Senior Director of Product Management at SmartBear, emphasised the significance of the new distributed tracing feature.
He stated, "The uniqueness of BugSnag's new distributed tracing lies in its true end-to-end nature, which is increasingly hard to achieve in modern architectures today. In today's complex, distributed environments, ensuring seamless performance across all layers of the application stack has become progressively challenging."
Collier pointed out that by tracing issues from the user's application through to distributed systems, BugSnag enables a complete and thorough view of an application's performance. "This is essential for developers and enterprises that need a faster response time and want to ensure that every aspect of the user experience is optimised," he added.
The integration of distributed tracing with performance monitoring aims to offer a richer and more detailed view of system performance. This combination provides a robust toolkit for maintaining and improving the performance and reliability of complex, distributed systems.
These advancements align with the increasing enterprise demand for cost-effective yet powerful observability solutions that can scale with operations. BugSnag's approach is designed to enhance observability insights for developers, streamline the observability process, and reduce the total cost of ownership for enterprises.
Highlighting the executive-level importance of these capabilities, Stephen Elliot, Group Vice President, I&O, Cloud Operations, and DevOps at IDC, explained, "Observability, reliability, and software quality are now C-Suite concerns as unplanned downtime can wreak havoc on a company's reputation and revenue streams. It's now essential that development executives have complete transparency into their digital services and understand what their customers are truly experiencing." His comments underscore the growing recognition of observability as a critical factor in maintaining organisational stability and customer satisfaction.
SmartBear is also streamlining developer workflows by integrating popular tools and features into intuitive solution hubs. BugSnag is transitioning into the SmartBear Insight Hub, which combines full-stack observability with OpenTelemetry-based distributed tracing into one hub. The Insight Hub aims to simplify the developer experience by offering an all-inclusive solution for managing software quality and performance.
This new SmartBear Insight Hub will be demonstrated at the upcoming SmartBear Connect Virtual event, part of the company's annual global customer event series.
