Sonata Software wins AWS migration & modernisation badge
Thu, 23rd Apr 2026
Sonata Software has achieved Amazon Web Services Migration and Modernization Competency status, recognising its work in supporting enterprise migration and modernisation projects on AWS.
AWS uses the competency to identify partners with validated expertise in moving applications from on-premises systems or other cloud environments and updating them for AWS. According to Sonata, the recognition covers its work across migration, modernisation and optimisation programmes for customers.
The designation adds to a series of AWS-related certifications and competencies the company has secured. It has also recently obtained AWS DevOps and Generative AI Competencies, along with other AWS service certifications.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, Sonata operates in markets including the US, UK, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Australia, the DACH region and the Nordics. The company focuses on modernising legacy technology estates for large organisations. It reported revenue of more than USD $1.2 billion and said it employs more than 6,400 AI engineers.
AWS Focus
AWS awards competency status to partners that meet technical and customer delivery benchmarks in specific areas. In this case, the category covers migrating applications and reshaping them to run more effectively in cloud environments.
This work has become a significant area of spending for large companies as they replace older systems, reduce maintenance burdens and make software development cycles more predictable. Technology suppliers and consulting firms increasingly link these projects to broader efforts in data transformation, platform engineering and artificial intelligence.
Sonata has been expanding its AWS-related work across cloud migration, application modernisation, data transformation, platform engineering and AI-enabled software delivery. The company described the competency as a marker of its technical expertise and customer experience in these programmes.
Chief Technology Officer Manu Swami linked the status to Sonata's broader modernisation strategy.
"Achieving the AWS Migration and Modernization Competency is an important milestone for Sonata Software and reflects our continued focus on modernization-led transformation," Swami said.
"For many enterprises, application modernization is now central to improving resilience, accelerating software delivery, and creating a more adaptable technology foundation. Our focus is on helping clients reduce technical debt, modernize with engineering rigor, and build platforms that support continuous innovation at scale."
Market Position
The recognition also supports Sonata's effort to strengthen its position in the crowded market for cloud migration and application overhaul services. Global technology providers, systems integrators and specialist software firms are all competing for programmes tied to legacy replacement and cloud adoption.
For customers, partner badges and competencies from major cloud providers can influence supplier selection, particularly for projects involving business-critical systems. These designations are often used as evidence that a vendor has completed relevant customer work and passed provider-led technical assessments.
Chief Revenue Officer Anthony Lange said the latest competency would help Sonata present its services to customers undertaking large-scale change programmes.
"Achieving the AWS Migration and Modernization Competency reinforces Sonata Software's position as a trusted partner for enterprises pursuing large-scale transformation," Lange said.
"Our clients are looking for modernization programs that move quickly, reduce risk, and deliver visible business impact. This recognition strengthens our ability to take that message to the market and underscores the value we bring in helping customers accelerate outcomes through our partnership with AWS."
