Fastly expands JioCDN partnership across India
Thu, 29th Oct 2026 (Today)
Fastly has expanded its partnership with Jio Platforms to support JioCDN in India, with the service now available to businesses across the country.
The move centres on JioCDN, a content delivery network built on Jio's infrastructure and supported by Fastly's technology.
The expanded arrangement targets the Indian market, where demand for digital services continues to rise in large cities and smaller towns. JioCDN is designed for businesses that need to deliver online content and services at scale, using Jio's fixed broadband and 5G network footprint.
The platform has already been used across Reliance's digital businesses, including JioHotstar, AJIO and JioTV. It has also handled major live digital events such as Indian Premier League matches and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
India focus
The announcement underlines India's importance for infrastructure providers seeking growth in content delivery and network services. Fastly described the country as one of the most demanding digital markets, while Jio highlighted the rapid expansion of online consumer and business activity.
JioCDN combines Jio's domestic network infrastructure with Fastly's edge cloud platform, allowing customers to run digital services on infrastructure built for large-scale traffic loads and security demands.
Scott Lovett, President, Go to Market, Fastly, said the existing partnership had already supported some of the largest streaming events handled by the platform. "India is one of the world's most exciting and demanding digital markets, and JPL is an ideal partner to bring Fastly's edge platform to this rapidly expanding market," Lovett said. "JioCDN has already delivered tremendous value to customers, including some of the largest live-streamed events in history. This is a testament to the secure, high-performance, and innovative platform we have built together at scale."
Arvind Tiwari, Chief Digital Services Officer, Jio Platforms, said the service is intended for businesses seeking broad reach in the Indian market. "India's digital economy is growing at an unprecedented pace, and our partnership with Fastly enables us to provide the platform businesses need to offer seamless digital experiences to end customers," Tiwari said. "JioCDN represents our commitment to help ensure that every Indian business and consumer has access to one of the most secure, reliable, and innovative platforms in the country at pricing built for the Indian market."
Streaming demand
The scale of live streaming in India has become an important test for content delivery systems, particularly during sports broadcasts that can attract tens of millions of concurrent viewers. According to JioHotstar's technology leadership, audiences of that size leave little room for delays or security issues.
"When you're streaming to tens of millions of concurrent viewers, you can't afford to troubleshoot latency or chase down security gaps," said Akash Saxena, Chief Technology Officer, JioHotstar. "JioCDN eliminates the complexity of delivering rich consumer experiences at scale so our teams don't have to."
The wider partnership comes as Fastly seeks to strengthen its position in security services. Separately, the company said it had been named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Web Application and API Protection Platforms 2026 Vendor Assessment.
The assessment focused on web application and API protection, an area of growing importance as companies manage larger numbers of digital services, software interfaces and automated traffic. Fastly said its security portfolio includes products for web application firewalls, bot management, distributed denial-of-service protection, API security, AI firewall tools and client-side protection.
It also highlighted features including deception technology aimed at account takeover attempts, shared threat intelligence across customers and controls over how AI crawlers and bots access content. In an excerpt cited by Fastly, IDC MarketScape said: "Detection is powered by two proprietary engines, SmartParse for WAF and the Adaptive Threat Engine for DDoS, delivered inline at every point of presence rather than through centralized scrubbing centers."
Fastly said bot traffic exceeded 50% in many industries based on traffic on its network in January 2026. It also cited figures from the IDC MarketScape assessment stating that the company reported a "98.7% annual revenue retention rate for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, and 117% last 12 months (LTM) net retention rate as of June 30, 2026."
Kelly Shortridge, Chief Product Officer, Fastly, linked the assessment to the company's investment in security. "Complexity is fractalizing. Every enterprise has seen an explosion in APIs, speed of change, and AI agents and bots calling them. Single, siloed defenses do not work. Fastly runs differentiated layers of defense that compound as applications multiply," Shortridge said. "I believe being named a Leader in this year's IDC MarketScape for WAAP Platforms reflects our depth of investment in protecting our customers' AI-native applications - from patent-pending Deception to our more recent API Enforcement and AI Firewall."
