FedEx expands electric fleet & community efforts in Asia Pacific
FedEx has reported progress in its sustainability and community initiatives across Asia Pacific during fiscal year 2025, with operational enhancements and increased employee involvement in community programmes.
Electrification efforts
The company continued to focus on decarbonisation, further expanding its electric vehicle (EV) fleet in several key Asian markets, including Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand. Notably, 2025 saw the deployment of FedEx's first fleet of six electric cargo vans in Korea, supporting parcel pickup and delivery in the cities of Seoul and Busan.
These developments are in line with FedEx's commitment to achieving carbon-neutral operations globally by 2040. Reducing emissions from owned and contracted vehicles remains central to this goal, as these account for approximately 25% of the company's total carbon footprint, according to data from fiscal year 2024.
By the start of fiscal year 2025, FedEx had increased its global EV fleet to 8,018 on- and off-road vehicles. Other operational enhancements include the integration of advanced intelligence solutions such as the AI-powered Stops Sequencing tool, which optimises delivery routes in real-time based on package volume and customer specifications. This approach aims to minimise unnecessary mileage and reduce emissions while improving operational efficiency.
Facility upgrades
In addition to fleet electrification, FedEx reported progress in the use of renewable energy at its facilities across Asia Pacific. Energy-efficient facilities were opened in Singapore, China, and Australia. In Singapore's South Pacific Regional Hub, more than half of total electricity consumption now comes from solar energy, providing power for both facility operations and local EV charging.
Community engagement
Employee participation in community programmes increased significantly, with a 20% year-on-year rise in volunteers during fiscal year 2025. FedEx reported that employees engaged in a range of sustainability-focused projects, from planting 3,465 trees and native plants to participating in environmental restoration activities such as mangrove planting in Indonesia and riverbank clean-ups in Japan.
The FedEx Cares Purple Tote Campaign, a recurring community initiative, saw more than 800 employees contribute over 1,000 volunteer hours. The programme resulted in the collection and donation of more than 3,600 kilograms of essential supplies, delivered through partnerships with 20 non-profit organisations. Over 1,600 beneficiaries, including children, the elderly, and underserved communities, were reached during the latest campaign.
"At FedEx, we are committed to leading responsibly, driving change forward, and channeling innovation to deliver a brighter future for the people and communities we serve and the planet we share," said Kawal Preet, president, Asia Pacific, FedEx.
"In today's climate-conscious business environment, our investments in expanding an electric vehicle fleet and integrating renewable energy across the Asia Pacific region reflect our long-term vision for sustainability. At the same time, through initiatives like FedEx Cares, we are empowering communities, creating opportunities, and championing a more sustainable and inclusive future for all."
Educational support
FedEx has also expanded its 2025 Library Program, which now supports approximately 9,000 children and teachers at 40 schools and communities in China, providing educational resources and improving learning environments in rural and underserved areas.
Investment in future talent remains a focal point. The FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge involved 4,700 students from nine markets in fiscal year 2025. Since its launch, nearly 50,000 students have participated. This year, participants were tasked with developing market entry strategies for products contributing to a circular economy, offering them exposure to entrepreneurship and global trade knowledge.
Reporting
The company publishes its annual progress in corporate responsibility reports. The 2025 Corporate Responsibility Report, reflecting data from fiscal year 2024, provides detailed insights into these sustainability and community engagement initiatives.
