Scrum.org has added a self-paced online course, Leading Agile Teams, to its learning platform. The course was developed with Professional Scrum Trainer Dominik Maximini of ValueRise Consulting.

The training is aimed at leaders working with agile teams and in agile organisations, including managers, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Team Leads and Directors. It focuses on Agile Leadership principles and how they apply in day-to-day leadership work.

Students learn how to lead agile teams, build self-management discipline and use AI tools to support leadership tasks. The material also covers personal vision, resilience, delegation frameworks, early burnout detection and what Scrum.org describes as common AI traps.

Course format

Leading Agile Teams is delivered online and can be completed at an individual pace, with no set deadline. The course takes about seven hours and includes interactive activities, reading material and quizzes based on workplace scenarios.

The launch expands Scrum.org's self-paced training offering alongside its instructor-led courses, certifications and broader learning resources. Founded by Scrum co-creator Ken Schwaber, the organisation focuses on training and education linked to the Scrum framework and wider agile practice.

Partner model

ValueRise Consulting, which worked on the course content, has focused on Agile Leadership and organisational improvement since its launch in 2020. The course carries Scrum.org's endorsement and is part of a broader model in which external specialists work with its internal team and instructional designers.

That approach allows Scrum.org to broaden its catalogue without relying solely on in-house authors. It also reflects continuing demand for short-form professional education that managers and team leaders can complete flexibly alongside existing workloads.

Training providers in the agile and project management market have increasingly expanded on-demand learning options as employers seek lower-commitment forms of professional development. Self-paced courses also allow providers to reach international learners without the scheduling constraints of live classes.

Leadership focus

Here, Scrum.org places leadership and workplace judgement at the centre of the new material rather than focusing only on process mechanics. The syllabus points to a broader shift in agile training toward behavioural, organisational and managerial questions, including the use of generative AI in routine work.

Students who complete the course receive a certificate of completion. Scrum.org said the content was reviewed, updated and approved by the organisation and its instructional designers.

Maximini outlined the course's purpose in a statement on the launch.

"Strong leadership creates teams that perform and thrive. I created this course to provide students with the tools, mindset and structure to achieve both," said Dominik Maximini, Professional Scrum Trainer, ValueRise Consulting.

"At the end of the day, Agile leadership is not about frameworks. It is about creating teams that deliver real results while staying motivated, resilient and aligned, and this course helps leaders learn the skills and steps needed to achieve this," added Maximini.

Platform growth

Dave West, Chief Executive Officer, Scrum.org, also commented on the addition.

"Agile leaders are critical for team success. Fostering the right skills, experience and discipline to get there is essential, and Leading Agile Teams helps them do so," said Dave West, Chief Executive Officer, Scrum.org.

"We are very excited to endorse this new course and add it to our platform of self-paced training courses. We are looking forward to releasing more endorsed courses in the future," added West.
