Europa Worldwide adopts Blue Yonder for carbon emissions tracking

Today

Europa Worldwide Group has adopted Blue Yonder's emissions reporting technology to enhance carbon management and meet growing customer and regulatory demands for sustainable logistics.

The move comes amid increasing pressure from both U.K. and European Union regulations, which prompt logistics service providers to monitor emissions and comply with evolving environmental standards. Europa Worldwide Group, which has operations across the U.K., Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, ANZ, and elsewhere, has integrated Blue Yonder's Logistics Emissions Calculator into its Road Freight division.

This carbon management initiative is designed to enable Europa Worldwide to provide detailed, GLEC-accredited and ISO 14083-aligned emissions data to its customers, leveraging advanced modelling and data integration capabilities. The solution includes an emissions calculator and reporting mechanism developed by Blue Yonder, recently augmented by its acquisition of Pledge.

Regulatory environment

As regulatory requirements tighten, logistics operators are required to supply detailed emissions reporting not only for internal sustainability targets, but also to fulfil customer expectations. Many customers now request emissions data on an ongoing basis as part of their own supply chain sustainability commitments.

Before implementing Blue Yonder's tools, Europa Worldwide relied on an in-house emissions reporting method, which the company found to be insufficiently granular for market and regulatory expectations. The previous system lacked accredited status, which limited its value for customers seeking precise data that supports their own environmental objectives and the global drive towards Net Zero.

Implementation and customer response

The group selected Blue Yonder for its ability to collect and analyse millions of data points, enabling more detailed carbon emissions reports. Integration with Europa Worldwide's transportation management system via Blue Yonder's API has allowed for greater reporting efficiency and improved transparency for customers.

"Europa Worldwide is proactively advancing towards more defined sustainability objectives. Since implementing Blue Yonder's Logistics Emissions Calculator, we have experienced a significant rise in customer engagement with emissions reporting, showcasing the solution's value. The integration of Blue Yonder's emission reporting capabilities underscores our dedication to maximizing strategic efforts in enhancing sustainability within logistics."

This is according to Tom Jenkins, Central Services Director, Europa Worldwide Group. He stated that customer engagement with emissions reporting has noticeably increased since implementing the new system, reflecting its relevance and value to Europa Worldwide's client base.

According to the company, the reporting system has been well-received within its Road department, where the technology was first introduced. The group notes that up to four new customers per week are being added in terms of emissions reporting usage.

Looking ahead, Europa Worldwide plans to expand the use of Blue Yonder's Logistics Emissions Calculator to its Air and Sea divisions. This expansion is scheduled to take place by the end of 2025, and will see the solution embedded in Europa Worldwide's customer self-serve portal to enhance accessibility.

Supplier perspective

From Blue Yonder's perspective, the collaboration underlines the necessity for logistics operators to address emissions transparently as regulatory frameworks evolve and customer demand for data increases.

"Amidst a global push for sustainable practices, Europa Worldwide seized the opportunity to be a leader in addressing carbon emissions from logistics. By strategically embedding sustainability into their operations, they are not only improving visibility for carbon emissions but also future proofing their business and their customers' business against regulatory shifts. We are proud to support their journey towards decarbonizing transportation."

This was stated by Saskia Van Gendt, Chief Sustainability Officer at Blue Yonder.

Continued sustainability focus

As Europa Worldwide integrates carbon reporting throughout its operations and customer offerings, the company continues to respond to market and regulatory demands for detailed, verifiable emissions data. The organisation employs over 1,300 people globally and reports an annual turnover exceeding GBP £300 million.

The logistics sector continues to adjust to enhanced scrutiny of its environmental impact, with operators increasingly adopting third-party tools and methodologies as part of broader carbon management strategies.
